Nothing Ever Changes….

We must have heard this 100 times in the past week in private messages. First, this is not true!!! Elected officials need to listen to the people, if they don’t you remove them.

Let’s say an official has no one running against them this fall, so they are going to surely be elected. Nothing changes… NO! Do not worry. People still have the power. This is America.

6 months after an election in Nebraska any elected official can be removed through recall. All you need is 45% of the number that voted for the official to start the process. For example, if a candidate got 1,000 votes in the election, you need 450 registered voters to sign a petition to start the recall. That is very easy to get.

We are not saying recall anyone at this time. Recall is a mechanism that voters have to replace officials that do not listen to the voice of the people. This is why when a special meeting is held, you must attend, make your voice heard, and if they don’t listen, you recall.

The people do have the ultimate power over officials, You must be fair to your officials however, and tell them how you feel. Then, if they ignore you, recall is the answer.

For those of you that would like more information on the process, here is a link to Nebraska State Law that outlines the process.
