Inflation + New Taxes + New Spending…..

This is not a good place for our county. We all know the impact of our current economic conditions. Everything is costing more. County residents are cutting back like most people across the USA. We would like to encourage our Cheyenne County government to do the same. We don’t need new taxes or increased spending during a time when the economy is hurting so many residents of this county.

When the courthouse which houses our County Government was finished in 1967, the population of the county was around11,000. It had dropped from a high of 14,000 in 1960. By 2010 Cheyenne county’s population was just under 10,000. Today our population in the county is 7,794. That represents a 21% decrease since 2010.

Jobs have left, businesses have left, and people have left.

Our population today is about 70% of what it was when they finished the new courthouse in 1967. So why do we need to spend $320,000 for new offices when the other one was built during a time when we had many more people in this county? Why do we keep increasing taxes when the county is in decline with people leaving? We are one of the highest-taxed counties in Nebraska. Time to stop.

Time to invest in the people and not new offices.
