September is Nebraska’s Truth In Taxation Month. Since 1967 local governments have controlled the tax rates on residents. There is a new law in Nebraska that requires local governments to be more open about purposed tax increases and take public comments. This must happen in September of each year. This year Cheyenne County has 2 very important dates.
September 6th, at 9:30 am, and September 26th at 6pm. These are the dates and times Cheyenne County Commissioners will be discussing the new budget and tax increases for all residents.
Right now there are 93 counties in Nebraska.
Cheyenne is the 28th largest county.
Cheyenne is the 6th highest-taxed county. That is amazing.
How YOU can change this……
No more “this is how it has always been”. Nebraska is changing. They are making new laws that REQUIRE officials to inform us. If we don’t like it, you can change it with a vote. Begin to learn your rights.
Platte Institute is an organization that is fighting for taxpayers’ rights. They are helping here in Cheyenne County.
