Good Morning Everyone,
We are receiving lots of ideas and photos of all the snow. I think we are all learning from this. This is a photo of the parking area around the back of my home in Pennsylvania. We would get feet of snow overnight during the winter because of the lake effect off the great lakes. That is my 32-inch snow blower making the first pass in the morning. One morning I woke to 3 1/2 feet. Had to dig out to open the door.
As a community, we had several action plans for snow events. It was great. Yesterday I spoke with another business owner downtown. Very upset because there was no room to park anywhere and therefore they had no business. They finally called the city and complained and the city came out immediately and moved all the snow. Problem solved.
It is difficult, cold, and dangerous work moving huge amounts of snow. This morning as I type this I see the city workers removing the berms of snow from the middle of the street downtown. Everyone is working and trying. I feel like running out of a cup of coffee for them because it is hard work. It is cold, miserable, and difficult work.
When this is all over, hopefully, we can have some town halls. Talk about the problem. Create some Reserve Snow Forces as we had back east to help assist in the removal of snow. Many great ideas. We are hearing awesome ideas. We are going to increase our communication in this community so everyone can be heard. We are going to fix the problems because they can be fixed. Other communities do it.
One question I keep hearing all the time was where to put all the snow? Back east, our counties had agreements with farmers and they dumped it on abandoned, or landbank fields. It worked well. There are lots of ideas and if we increase the ability for us to talk to one another through better communication, we can get it all solved. Don’t be afraid to complain and show us where the problems are. We all need to know. Show photos, and talk about it so everyone understands the problems. This is the first step in solving them.
Stay warm, stay safe and watch out for the ice that comes each evening after the melting during the day. It is dangerous.
