Good Morning Cheyenne County….
This weekend we met with several people, and many of them didn’t know some tax information about Cabelas. Now, before we talk about it I want to say again, I wish Cabelas didn’t leave and I can’t find any justification for letting down our community. But, lets look at what they have done. If you look at the tax charts below you will see that Cabales continued to pay more than enough taxes after they left. As a matter of face they paid A LOT.
We now have Cheyenne County Budgets from 2010-2021 and are seeing some interesting things which we will discuss later. But look at Cabelas.
In 2020 Cabelas paid over $800,000 in taxes.
This is more than in previous years, even before they left.
This is also not all the taxes they paid on other properties etc.
In 2021 Cheyenne County appraised the buildings again, causing Cabelas to now fight those valuations in court, and they won. So, Cheyenne County now has lost over $400,000 in taxes Cabelas used to pay.
Many have been quite shocked to find out that even after Cabelas left they continued to support this county and pay large amounts of taxes. Again, I am not supporting them, just stating what we are finding.
So the question is…… With a new income loss coming in 2022 to the county in over $400,000 in revenue, why did we just buy a new $320,000 building for our County Attorney and pave a $1,300,000 road? So we lost a case and spent more money…… Why?

Oh, and this is only a small part of what Cabelas pays. They are also paying a lot of TIF taxes as well. More on that later.
