Building Your Future…..
So many people ask us why we do this. Because we have decided to make Sidney our home. We love it here like so many of you. We have met people who have been here for generations and that is so amazing. So today I want to show some of you just a few of the things I look at as an investor and why we have decided to move here but not our business. We bought the Sidney Fine Art Center in 2017 because it was a good investment. We believe and still do that this area is prime for investment. We CAN turn this area around. Sidney has a history of it, even though it is stuck right now.
MANY things need to change to get us going again.
Here I show our home in Pennsylvania. We bought it in 2002 for $165K. We decided to sell it and move this home to Sidney. We sold it for $450K Time of sale is shown by the green dot. You can see our home is still going up. Our other investments in PA have as well. Should have held it a little longer though…LOL.. This is the normal way home appreciates. We sold a home in California a couple years ago that did exactly the same thing. It appreciated 300K in 10 years. That home paid us 30K a year to own it. Our original plan was to live in Pennsylvania and invest in Sidney. This changed when we completely fell in love with this area. It is open. Uncrowded streets and an amazing way of life. We would like to buy land, and build a home, but not during this bubble.
Below I show home here in Sidney. Now, this is not typical of every home in Sidney thank goodness. It is however a troubling sign for investors. We can change this but it will take everyone. As we said last year COVID was a bubble. We warned about raising the values of properties here like they did last year. It hurts everyone. But, they did it. Many people moved here from the larger cities to get out. Drove up prices. Why do we have a bubble and our PA home didn’t? A number of factors we will go into as we try to get new investment here.
Homes and values here were going up here in the last days of Cabelas but now they are not. COVID is a false flag for this area. It has been 5 years and we are not recovering! Why? We still do things like Cabela’s is still here. It is not. They have moved on. We need to as well. Sidney has recovered so many times over the years. We will again if we move in that direction. Things need to change though to do it. New ideas. No more, “this is the way it has always been done”.
We need to build our future. We need new housing starts for our younger residents to afford homes. We have made a large investment in this area. We are going to make even more because we can turn it around. We have already started. Hang in there everyone. This will be a great year if we are willing to come together and make some changes.
What can we do? Reduce spending. Control the budgets and make this area attractive for investment again. Make sure we do “due diligence” on every dollar spent. Talk as a community. We certainly don’t have all the answers and there are some who disagree with our positions. That is fine. Let’s go have a coffee and talk about it. Let’s bring back this area again.
